We're in the thick of gripping title battle

HUDDERSFIELD are locked in a restricted battle with rivals Skipton at the prime of the Yorkshire Veterans Inter-district League. The Perrys-sponsored Huddersfield side scored a 37-19 win around Bradford to knock them off the prime of the table.


The fact is that, Skipton (who have been past year's runners-up) defeated Leeds 41-15 and are now two factors in advance of Huddersfield at the head of proceedings.


Huddersfield's away staff, under manager Dougie Mellor, pulled off yet another encouraging win at Ladyhill Park, submitting a 15-13 scoreline, although the home team - managed by Derek Gee - triumphed 22-6 at Huddersfield RUFC BC.


John Hoyle was gentleman of the match in the property clash, playing exceptionally effectively to win to 3, and the good results enabled the crew to move 17 points ahead of prior leaders Bradford and onto the coat-tails of Skipton.
