The following pages include life sketches of 40 executives managing the affairs of top companies appearing in our various tables being published in this issue. Mr. Jyahangir N.W. Ansari has been appointed as Managing Director of Pakistan State Oil Company Ltd. effective 20th December 1993. He is a highly professional and experienced senior marketing executive from the oil industry with over 28 years in the petroleum sector. He started his career as an Executive in Pakistan National Oil the fore runner of Pakistan State Oil. He has held key positions in the company covering all aspects of its activities and is responsible for maintaining supplies of essential petroleum products to all sectors of the economy. He has a sound academic background and has attended a number of related courses, seminars and symposiums on petroleum, aviation, and energy sectors in Pakistan and abroad. Mr. Jahangir N.W. Ansari has extensively travelled abroad to study modern concepts and techniques of the petroleum industry. He is married and has three children.

Owner: WAPDA, Pakistan Engineer: Main-Nespak Consulting Engineers, Tarbela Pakistan Location: Tarbela Dam - 100 KM NortheastThe special layout of the hydropower station extension requires the installation of butterfly valves of 7.35 m nominal internal diameter upstream of each unit, as well as four relief valves with their guard valves to limit the overpressure in the penstock.The addition of turbine units 11 to 14 at the Tarbela Dam is the third major extension to this project, and will increase the installed capacity at the power station to 3510 MW. The DBS Escher Wyss contract is to design, supply, erect and commission the 4 large Francis turbines and 4 governor systems. The turbine runner is made from type 13.4 stainless steel and will be shop fabricated and shipped in one piece weighing approximately 200 tonnes. The runner throat diameter is 7510 mm.Project DescriptionVice Admiral Mansurul Haque, HI(M), S.Bt. was born in Sialkot in October, 1937. After passing his F.Sc. from Murray College, Sialkot he joined Pakistan Navy in 1954. He received his initial training in the United Kingdom, graduating from Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartsmouth in September, 1958. After serving on various Sea Appointments; he graduated as Gunnery Specialist from H.M.S. Excellent, Portsmouth, United Kingdom in 1965. During his early career he served in various sea going ships and staff appointments at Naval Headquarters. He was promoted to the rank of Captain in 1977. He was promoted to the rank of Commodore in 1983 and served in the Naval Headquarters as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff Operations and Personnel. He was appointed Commander Pakistan Fleet on 9th January, 1987 in the rank of Rear Admiral. He assumed duties of Director General Training Joint Staff Headquarters in August, 1988 and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Personnel) NHQ in October, 1990. He was appointed Commander Karachi in November 1991, while holding this appointment he was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral He assumed duties as Chairman Pakistan National Shipping Corporation on 18th August, 1992. He is a graduate of Naval War College, New Port Rhode Island USA and recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-i-Basalat.Thirteen single-phase transformers installed outdoors, each of 160 MVA rating, are to be supplied by Ansaldo (Italy). Hence three transformers per unit plus one spare are available. The present switchyard, which is already one of the largest in Pakistan, is being extended by three new bays. The new switchyard will have SF6 type breakers. He was Graduated from PAF Academy, Risalpur in June 1960. He is a thoroughbred combat pilot and has been flying F86 Sabres, French Mirage III's and V's, American Starfighter (F104) and F-16 combat aircraft. With an outstanding career in the Pakistan Air Force, AVM Farooq Umar has been awarded some of the top military and civil awards by the Government of Pakistan i.e. Hilal-e-Imtiaz (M), Sitara-e-Imtiaz (M), Sitara-e-Jurrat, Sitara-e-Basalat and Tamgha-e-Basalat for gallantry in combat as well as for outstanding meritorious service. Prior to his present assignment, AVM Farooq Umar was the Managing Director of Shaheen Airlines. Earlier, he has held the posts of Director-General, Pakistan Aeronautical Complex for about four years as well as Base Commander, Pakistan Air Force Base Faisal Karachi, Commandant, Pakistan Air Force Staff College and Sector Commander Southern Pakistan. Besides an impeccable record in the Pakistan Air Force, AVM Farooq Umar brings with him a vast range of diversified administrative and technical experience. Having attended numerous seminars and workshops both, at home and abroad, AVM Farooq Umar has authored a number of scholarly papers on important subjects.Mr. Shaukat Raza Mirza began his career with Esso Eastern in 1962. After a series of assignments in the United States and Pakistan. Mr. Mirza was transferred to Exxon Chemical Pakistan Limited in 1968. He was appointed Technical Manager at the Darhki Urea Plant in 1974. In 1976 he was transferred to Exxon Chemical Asia Pacific Regional Headquarters in Hong Kong as Planning and Analysis Advisor. Hong Kong and later became Product Line Manager with responsibility for Aromatic Plasticizers and Intermediate business in the Asia Pacific Region. He returned to Pakistan in 1984 to assume the position of Senior Vice President. Exxon Chemical Pakistan Ltd. which position he held until his appointment as President of the Company from February 1988. Mr. Mirza is a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Engineering University Lahore. He also holds a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham, England. He has attended postgraduate courses at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the New York University.
